If you’re curious about all the fuss with the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Square Enix has released a free demo today on the PlayStation Store. Downloading the demo before May 11 will also provide an exclusive PlayStation 4 theme when the full game launches on April 10.

The limited demo includes the opening chapter of the story, centered around the bombing mission of the Mako Reactor.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake stars Cloud Strife, a former strike force member of the powerful Shinra corporation, which controls the planet’s life force. In the opening chapter, Cloud has left Shinra to join forces with a rebellious mercenary group called Avalanche to shut down the reactor in the city of Midgar.

The remake covers only a fraction of the full 1997 RPG, taking place entirely within the opening area of Midgar, but expanding on many story and gameplay elements. The combat system uses a hybrid of real-time action with strategic commands.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be released on April 10 with standard, deluxe, and a 1st Class Edition on PlayStation 4. It’s rated T for Teen with Language, Suggestive Themes, Use of Alcohol and Tobacco, and Violence.
