Epic Games, the makers of Fortnite, have been making waves in the gaming industry by snatching up deals to release new and upcoming PC games exclusively on their Epic Games Store. With the latest news that Epic has acquired Psyonix, those deals are now extending into acquiring entire game developers.

If you’re worried that the same exclusivity fate will befall Rocket League, Epic and Psyonix are quick to address those concerns. “In the long term we expect to bring Rocket League to the Epic Games store and to leverage our new relationship to grow the game in ways we couldn’t do on our own before. We believe that bringing Rocket League to new audiences with more support is a win for everybody.” Epic plans on bringing Rocket League to the Epic Games Store later this year.

In a later update the official statement added: “We wanted to clarify something for you after today’s news: Rocket League is and remains available on Steam. Anyone who owns Rocket League through Steam can still play it and can look forward to continued support.”

“Psyonix has always been a part of the Epic family, and we’re happy to make it official,” said Tim Sweeney, CEO, Epic Games. “We have great respect for how Psyonix has built an excellent team and an incredible community around Rocket League.”

Though Rocket League has never come close to Fortnite’s meteoric rise in popularity, it remains a cherished online competitive sports-car hybrid game, and has been one of the biggest champions of cross-platform play.
