Nintendo has published a new gameplay trailer showing two more of the eight playable characters in upcoming Square Enix RPG Octopath Traveler. Octopath Traveler is launching July 13 exclusively on Nintendo Switch.

The nearly four-minute trailer features H’annit the Hunter, and Therion the Thief, as well as their respective special abilities, called Path Actions. H’annit has the Provoke ability, which lets her sic animals and monsters on people. As a thief Therion’s ability is pretty obvious: steal stuff.

Each of these Path Actions are classified as either Noble or Rogue. Both our new characters’ actions are Rogue, while Tressa’s ability Purchase is an example of a more Noble action. Noble actions can be used without fear of failure, but they have other limitations, such as tied to a character’s level or currency. Rogue actions can be used regardless of level, but may have a chance to fail, which could lower your reputation.

Side quests, called Side Stories, can be completed in multiple ways depending on which Path Actions you employ.

Octopath Traveler is a highly anticipated retro-inspired RPG from Square Enix. It combines a 16-bit SNES-style sprite aesthetic with HD effects, known as HD-2D. The title is a reference to the eight playable characters, each of which has different motivations and Path Actions.

A demo is available on the Nintendo eShop. Since the demo’s launch last fall, Square Enix has incorporated fan feedback for the upcoming launch, including faster walk speed. Octopath Traveler will be released July 13 on Nintendo Switch.
