DONTNOD Entertainment and Square Enix, the two studios responsible for developing and publishing Life is Strange, have announced that Episode 1 of the game will be available for free starting July 21st. The game has been a critical success since its release, earning numerous awards including a BAFTA for Best Story. Square Enix representatives hope that making the first episode free will draw more players into the game.
To celebrate the free download, DONTNOD has released a new trailer for the game. The trailer showcases Max and Chloe’s friendship and adventures in action. To those unfamiliar with Life is Strange, the game follows Max Caulfield, a senior and photography student at Blackwell Academy. Her acceptance at Blackwell brings Max back to her old hometown of Arcadia Bay where she reconnects with her best friend, Chloe Price. But Arcadia Bay isn’t as quiet or peaceful as it appears. The town has a serious dark side, and it’s up to Max and Chloe to expose it with the help of Max’s own mysterious rewind powers.
Episode 1: Chrysalis can be downloaded free of charge through online stores for the PlayStation 3 and 4, Xbox 360 and One, and Mac or PC.
