At the Sony E3 press conference Capcom announced the next chapter in Resident Evil. The venerable horror franchise welcomes Resident Evil 7 Biohazard. Resident Evil 7 is the first in the series to adopt a first person view using Capcom’s brand new RE engine. In addition to console and PC release, the full game will also be available as a VR experience through PlayStation VR Mode. Resident Evil 7 promises “a disturbingly realistic experience that will define the next era in horror entertainment.”

The game takes place in and around a rural farmhouse in modern day America. The trailer gives off a much slower survival-horror theme than previous games. The Resident Evil series had evolved into a much more action-packed horror-action genre.

The brief but tantalizing teaser shown at E3 shows the first-person player waking up in a dilapidated plantation mansion. A phone call tells him to get out of there before “they” kill him. This demo, called Resident Evil 7 Teaser: Beginning Hour, is available to download right now for PlayStation Plus subscribers. It will arrive on other platforms at a later date.

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard is scheduled for release on January 24, 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC. The PlayStation VR Mode will be included in the PS4 version.
