State of Decay 2 was officially announced during the Xbox E3 press conference. State of Decay 2 returns zombie survivors to rural Trumbull County. But this time, you’re not alone.

“As a full sequel with much higher ambitions, we had to wait until development was far enough along to speak confidently about what the game will be when it gets into your hands,” writes Undead Labs founder Jeff Strain. “We’ve considered many paths for State of Decay over the past few years, but the overwhelming majority of you said you wanted a bigger, badder, bolder, smoother State of Decay that you could play with your friends.”

“State of Decay 2 builds upon the unique blend of open-world exploration, third-person action, and survival-fantasy role playing we pioneered in the original State of Decay, and then adds drop-in cooperative multiplayer.” State of Decay 2 offers a larger world you can explore and survive in with up to three other players.

The trailer shows off many familiar State of Decay gameplay features like vehicles, melee combat, and scavenging. State of Decay was among my favorite games of 2013. The blend of survival, base management, permadeath, and open-world exploration hit all the right notes. The only thing missing was multiplayer. State of Decay 2 just rocketed to the top of my most anticipated games.

State of Decay 2 is scheduled for 2017 for Xbox One and Windows 10 PC.
