Are you ready to get talking with your friends virtually.. sort of? Then you’re in luck. Miitomo, the first mobile app from Nintendo is now available. Miitomo is a free to download and play. Despite being made by Nintendo, the app is not a game, but a social “experience” according to an official release.

“With Miitomo, Nintendo takes its first step into the world of smart devices,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing in the release. “Miitomo brings the special Nintendo charm and polish that people around the world love to an entirely new format and audience.”

In Miitomo, you create personalized Miis based on the answers you give to a few questions. Then your Miis will go out into the world and talk to other Miis, then come back to you and tell you about the conversations they had. Nintendo has said the app is a tool for people who need a little help in the social department to begin to have conversations with people. It’s kind of a like a digital version of Cyrano de Bergerac.

As always family safety is at the forefront of Nintendo’s plans, so users will only be able to chat with those who are already on their friends list. We’ll have some impressions on the app after it’s launched.
