HoloLens project manager Varun Mani uploaded a video of himself playing Halo with the augmented reality device on Monday.

The short video shows Mani playing Halo on the TV, and then pausing the game and turning around to see the same screen suspended behind him through the HoloLens.

The footage streaming from the Xbox One looks pretty crisp. Mani dies quickly so it’s hard to tell what playing Halo on the HoloLens is like. It looks like the user can drag and adjust the screen with touch controls.

The Xbox One will also be able to stream to the Oculus Rift headset, but that experience will be different from gaming on the HoloLens. As an augmented reality device, the HoloLens overlays digital artifacts on your physical surroundings. With the Oculus, the player will be fully immersed.

At a Microsoft event in October, the developer showed off a game that has players staving off waves of invading robots in their living room. Microsoft called it a “mixed-reality” demonstration.

The HoloLens has been criticized for its small viewfield, compared to the expansive demos that we saw at events like E3. Later models of the HoloLens are sure to expand the viewfield, and the promises that the HoloLens is making are pretty incredible. Its applications in medical science are fascinating, and the ability to untether from your console and play a game of Halo anywhere in your home is awesome.

HoloLens dev kits are $3,000. If you want to vote on apps that you would to see for the HoloLens, you can do that right here.
