Double Fine’s indie classic, Psychonauts, may be getting a sequel–if the crowdfunding comes through. Psychonauts 2 is currently on Fig, a Kickstarter-like platform. Double Fine is seeking $3.3 million in funding in order to finish the project.

The original Psychonauts, released in 2005, features Rez, a young acrobatic psychic who runs away from the circus to become a secret agent. The story ends on a cliffhanger. Yep, a cliffhanger–an unresolved story that’s now 10 years in the waiting.

In his Fig video, Schafer explains that he’s wanted to make Psychonauts 2 for ages. And now at last, he is “getting the band back together.” Eric Wolpaw, who co-wrote the first game (as well as the incredible Portal 2), is returning to collaborate on story and dialogue. Original voice actors Richard Horvitz and Nicki Rapp are back, plus additional voice talent by Jack Black (who acted in Double Fine’s last crowdfunded game Broken Age).

As of today, the project has raised $1,2867,000 of their $3,300,000 goal, with 8912 backers.
