Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam is a crossover between the Mario & Luigi franchise and the Paper Mario franchise. It was first announced at E3 2015, and was expected to have a 2016 release date. However, Nintendo has just announced that the game is coming out in early December 2015 in Japan, Europe, and Australia. Woo!

But wait—in North America, the release date is still listed as Spring 2016. What does this mean?

Well, there are two possibilities. The first is that Nintendo hasn’t gotten around to picking a release date for the region. The other is that the game will indeed come out in North America several months after it comes out in the rest of the world (as happened with Yoshi’s Wooly World).

Either way, it’s pretty cool that they’re moving the release forward for this title, since Nintendo usually moves release dates the other way. It seems likely that after the delay of Star Fox Zero, the company is trying to bolster their holiday lineup. Check out their end-of-year releases below:

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam (known as Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Bros. in Europe) tells the story of two Mario universes that have collided. The 3D Mario and Luigi must work together with their 2D counterparts to defeat the two Bowsers and untangle their worlds. Check out the trailer here.
