At its digital E3 event this week, Nintendo announced Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam for 3DS. The game will be a crossover between the Mario & Luigi game series and the Paper Mario game series.

Unlike the classic Super Mario Bros. games, both the Mario & Luigi series and the Paper Mario games are role-playing games (RPGs), meaning that they use turn-based fighting like Pokémon or Final Fantasy games.

In sneak peeks of the game at Nintendo’s E3 Treehouse, we learned that the new game will have Mario, Luigi, and Paper Mario teaming up to fight off bad guys and rescue Paper Toads. Paper Mario will be able to move through narrow passageways (just like Link in The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds). Watch the game trailer below to see the inhabitants of the two game universes interact for the first time.

This game is set to be released in 2016.
