During the PlayStation State of Play September 2026, Capcom revealed the first trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, a big expansion coming in 2027. Ascendance will add a new region, alongside new monsters, equipment, and combat moves when it launches in 2027.

Like previous Monster Hunter expansions, Ascendance takes place after the main story of the base game, Monster Hunter Wilds, which released in 2025. Years after the climactic encounter with Arkveld, The Expedition Team is attacked by a new monstrous threat, Elder Dragon Lao-Shan Lung.

In response, the team constructs the Madoi Stronghold to prepare for the titan’s reappearance.

At the same time, a new area is unveiled. The mists in the skies recede, revealing the Skybound Eyrie, a region in the clouds with ancient ruins, and its own monsters. The trailer showcases the flying Araketa, which hunts in packs, as well as new Elder Dragon Gundoraja, a massive serpent who can control the storm.

The time jump also allows Nata, the young kid from Wilds, to age up into a more full-fledged Expedition Team member, alongside Bangard the Wudwud.

Ascendance also adds a new piece of equipment with the Boost Bracer. The Boost Bracer adds new combos and mobility maneuvers. More abilities for each weapons are also forthcoming.

As a series fan, I quite enjoyed Monster Hunter Wilds, and look forward to exploring more content with Ascendance next year!

Monster Hunter Wilds is available on PC (Steam), PlayStation, and Xbox, and rated T for Teen.
