LEGO has announced a new classroom initiative aimed at K-8 science students. LEGO Education Science brings over 120 lesson plans through three ready-to-use LEGO kits to promote interactive learning with teachers and students.
After conducting a survey of over 6,000 teachers, parents, and students, LEGO found that 45% of students listed science as their least favorite subject. Only 55% of students receive hands-on learning experience, which brings more engagement and success in science classrooms.
In response, LEGO Education Science has developed reusable brick kits and dozens of applicable lesson plans, including biomimicry, kinetic energy, and reducing the impact of natural events.
“One of the most powerful things we can do as educators is to instill a lifelong love of learning in our students,” said Andrew Sliwinski, Head of Product Experience, LEGO Education. “LEGO Education Science supports educators across the world to bring science standards to life in a new way with ready-made lessons and high quality, reusable LEGO bricks and hardware. I can’t wait to see these learning experiences in the hands of students.”
Kits are available in three styles, organized by grade, and designed for up to four students working together. Each kit includes about 40 lessons, with hundreds of LEGO bricks, a charging cable, and motors to create moving parts. LEGO Education Science kits can be purchased as discounted classroom bundles, or separately for individualized learning, beginning in August.
LEGO Education works with schools and administrators to provide educational LEGO kits for pre-K, elementary, and middle school students.
