Nintendo announced a new device that replaces your morning alarm clock with video game sound effects and music. It’s Alarmo!

No, this is not an April Fool’s joke, though it sure seems like one at first. Especially when you check out that $100 price tag. Oof!

The Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo will arrive at retail stores in early 2025, just missing the holiday season. Also oof.

The reason for Alarmo’s big price tag is the motion sensor technology. Alarmo senses your motions while you wake up, playing sound effects and music from first-party Nintendo games.

Alarmo includes 35 scenes from five Nintendo games: Super Mario Odyssey, Pikmin 4, Splatoon 3, Ring Fit Adventure, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Nintendo account members can also add scenes from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons by linking their account, and downloading via a free update.

With Alarmo’s motion sensor, you can even use specific motion to snooze the alarm — which seems downright dangerous!

Alarmo also includes a Records feature that tracks movement while sleeping (kind of creepy), and two different alarm modes: Steady, for gradual intensity, or Gentle, for more consistency.

The clock features a 2.8″ LCD screen with date, time, and alarm setting, and room for video game characters to appear.

Those of us with dogs and/or partners will have to forgo the motion sensor mode for regular ol’ button mode, as per the FAQ.

Look, I love Nintendo as a brand and the music, but the whole thing just seems a bit too… silly?
