A Christmas Carol Castlevania by way of Ghostbusters is not exactly a common pitch, but that’s exactly the concept behind Ebenezer and the Invisible World, which is launching on PC and consoles this November.

Ebenezer and the Invisible World is a 2D metroidvania that reimagines the classic Charles Dickens story. The miserly old man has been given the spectral shot in the arm he needs to turn his life around, and become a sword-cane-wielding ghostbuster in Victorian London!

By meeting ghosts and completing their quests, Scrooge can unlock new ghostly powers to help him traverse the streets, rooftops, and bowels of London. He’ll also use these powers to battle the evil, unrepentant ghosts that now run rampant through the streets following the return of the Dark Spirit.

The world features lovely hand-drawn animation and artwork, and includes over 30 characters with dialogue and cutscenes, as each ghostly ally features a tragic backstory.

The non-linear, exploration-based gameplay, including the old-school boxy map, is clearly inspired by classic 2D Castlevania games such as Symphony of the Night.

Ebenezer and the Invisible World is releasing November 3rd on Steam, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox. It’s the debut game from studio Play on Worlds. A free demo is available on Steam.
