After three years of constant updates and improvements through Steam Early Access, Baldur’s Gate 3 has finally released as 1.0 on PC (Steam, GoG).
The massive, D&D-licensed RPG will launch on PlayStation 5 on September 6th (Sept. 3rd for the Digital Deluxe Edition). Other consoles have yet to be announced.
In addition to 72-hour early access, the Digital Deluxe Edition ($79.99) includes digital artbook, soundtrack, character sheets, and several in-game goodies.
For existing Early Access players, Larian Studios recommends deleting existing save games, and then uninstalling the entire game, before downloading the full version — which clocks in at around 120 GB! The developer also recommends installing on a solid state drive to improve performance and reduce load times.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is the long-awaited threequel to the Baldur’s Gate RPG series, developed by BioWare studios in the late 90s/early 2000s. The series is based on the Dungeons & Dragons license and set in the Forgotten Realms.
Although some characters and events will be referenced in the new game, Baldur’s Gate 3 takes place 100 years after Baldur’s Gate 2, and features a new, original story.
Players can create a custom character using the D&D Fifth Edition rules, including races, classes, spells, and feats. Players can also choose to play as one of the recruit-able companions, such as Astarion, Gale, and Shadowheart.
Similar to Larian’s Divinity: Original Sin series, Baldur’s Gate 3 also supports four player co-op multiplayer, including split-screen. Players can create their own custom characters to journey together, or take over a companion in a friend’s adventure.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is rated M for Mature.
