Red Hook Studios has proudly announced that their highly anticipated sequel, Darkest Dungeon 2, has officially released as version 1.0 on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store).

The challenging turn-based RPG spent four years in active development, including 18 months in Early Access via Epic Games Store. Those preferring to play on Steam can rest easy knowing any save progress will migrate to the Steam version.

Both stores include launch discounts of 25%.

The full version of the sequel includes five campaigns across four regions, each with their own bosses. The player can explore the dark, ruined world via new 3D travel mechanics with a stagecoach.

Players can build their squad from a roster of 12 heroes, including the recent Flagellant. Eleven of the heroes feature 5-part backstories that unlock unique skills.

A metagame hub, The Altar of Hope, unlocks persistent upgrades. Even when a run invariable ends in horrifying failure, you still make some progress toward becoming more powerful.

“Darkest Dungeon II eschews conventional sequeling, delivering a fresh, but familiar experience that will challenge new and returning players alike,” said Chris Bourassa & Tyler Sigman, co-founders, Red Hook Studios. “We grew our studio in order to deliver on our vision for the game, and throughout early access our team has worked tirelessly to build and polish the experience. We are very proud of the team’s work, and we hope your heroes die horribly many times on your road to redemption.”

Darkest Dungeon 2 has not yet been rated by the ESRB. The first game earned a strong T for Teen rating. Console versions are still in development.
