Stardock has released Galactic Civilizations 4, the latest entry in their long-running 4X sci-fi series, on PC ($49.99, Epic Games Store). Galactic Civilizations 4 features multi-sector maps, broad-ranging policies, and a new mission system.

Players can choose from over a dozen different space-faring civilizations, or customize their own as they explore the galaxy. Larger maps have now been broken up into smaller sectors connected by subspace streams to make them more manageable.

Management has also been improved through the use of core worlds. Core worlds represent the main world from a colonized or conquered system, and will oversee lesser worlds.

The new global achievements attempt to fix the late game grind of 4X strategy games, wherein victory — or defeat, is all but certain. Players can complete these missions to earn prestige points, which are a new requirement to winning the game.

“Galactic Civilizations 4 is the result of years of thinking about the exciting innovations that have been occurring in strategy games,” said Brad Wardell, CEO, Stardock. “We want to give players the ultimate turn-based strategy experience, and we’ve accomplished this by adding in tons of new features that add to the depth and scope of the game while incorporating feedback over several alpha and beta testing phases.”

Galactic Civilizations 4 is available exclusively on the Epic Games Store. It has not yet been rated by the ESRB, but GalCiv 3 was rated E10+.
