Coffee Stain Studios and Sony have announced that co-op shooter Deep Rock Galactic is launching on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on January 4, 2022. PS Plus subscribers will be able to snag it for free, as part of January’s free monthly games for subscribers.

Originally out in 2018 on Steam Early access, and hitting 1.0 last year on PC and Xbox One, Deep Rock Galactic is a first-person sci-fi shooter starring a team of dwarves — in space! Players choose between four different classes, each with their own special weapons and tools, and explore procedurally generated caves.

You can blast through your own paths through cave tunnels, as the environment is fully destructive. Gather minerals and resources and defend against waves of alien monsters. Picture Minecraft if it was all about exploring underground.

Deep Rock Galactic is widely regarded as an excellent online co-op game thanks to its replayablity and focus on teamwork and exploration. While it doesn’t offer local multiplayer, up to four players can play online (requires PS Plus subscription).

January’s free PS Plus games also include the action spin-off Persona 5 Strikers and racing game Dirt 5. January’s games will be available to download beginning January 4, 2022 for PS Plus subscribers.

Deep Rock Galactic is rated T for Teen.
