Good news Marvel fans: Spider-man has finally arrived as a playable character in Marvel’s Avengers, over a year after its initial release. The web-slinger arrives alongside a large patch, which also adds a power-level increase, a new raid, and a way to earn cosmetics through gameplay.

Now the bad news: Spider-man is only available on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions, and unlike previous post-launch heroes, doesn’t include any new story content.

Spider-man’s exclusivity is due to Sony’s fiercely protected rights to the character, which has caused headaches for Marvel in recent years (but which has also borne fruit for both companies). The news that Spider-man would be added to Avengers as a post-launch hero was met with immediate outrage that the hero would be platform-exclusive.

The lack of story content is due to developer Crystal Dynamics (and Sony) not wanting to spend resources on something only PlayStation players could experience. Spidey will instead include the With Great Power Hero event, a series of challenges to tackle while replaying other missions.

The new raid, Discordant Sound, features the return of the villainous Klaw as he tries to destroy Wakanda and claim their Vibranium. To combat this high-level threat, power levels have been increased from 150 to 175.

Players can also purchase the new Shipments by spending 500 units, the in-game currency. Shipments are basically random loot boxes that could contain cosmetic items, including premium outfits.

Patch 2.2, including the raid, are available for everyone, while Spidey will only show up at the helicarrier for PlayStation players. Marvel’s Avengers is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It’s rated T for Teen.
