Long-awaited sequel Super Meat Boy Forever launched late last year (and we mean late – December 23!) on Epic Games Store and Switch. PlayStation and Xbox owners have been patiently waiting for several months. Now the end is near. Super Meat Boy Forever will release on PlayStation 4 and 5 and Xbox One and X/S on April 16 ($19.99).
Some time has passed in the game world as well, as the heroic anthropomorphic Meat Boy and his now safe girlfriend Bandage Girl have had a child together, Nugget. But now Nugget has been kidnapped by the evil Dr. Fetus, and it’s up to the couple, as well as some new characters, to take up the gauntlet of grinding death once again.
In Meat Boy Forever, all the platforming level sequences are randomly generated from a pool of “literally thousands.” The developers promise that you can complete the game all the way through several times without seeing a single level repeat. To help survive the daunting challenge, Meat Boy can now punch enemies with a mighty fist, as well as slide and plummet to help stay alive in each level.
“As great as it was for Super Meat Boy to make his return on Switch and the Epic Games Store, no return would be complete without a victory lap on PlayStation and Xbox platforms – which many of you may remember Meat Boy making his console premiere on over a decade ago,” said Tommy Refenes, co-founder and programmer, Team Meat. “Super Meat Boy Forever isn’t just more of the same though. This is Meat Boy evolved. He now has a completely different moveset, controls, power-ups, and endless level remixes that can be played forever!”
Super Meat Boy Forever is available on PC and Switch, and coming to PlayStation and Xbox on April 16. It’s rated T for Teen.
