Streets of Rage 4 has been a big hit for Dotemu and developers Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games, as they announce over two and a half million copies sold since it released last year (we loved it too – read our review). As a result, the modernized beat ’em up is getting paid DLC. Mr. X Nightmare will add new playable characters and a new survival mode when it launches later this year on PC and consoles.

Dotemu is playing coy with announcing the three new characters, only confirming the first one, Estel, in the announcement video. Estel is the hard-brawling cop who appears as a boss fight in the base game. She comes equipped with powerful slugs and spin kicks.

Mr. X Nightmare also adds a new survival mode, as players try to outlast waves of enemies. With the new character customization coming in the DLC, players will be able to personalize their fighters with new moves to create their favorite loadout.

The DLC will launch alongside a free update that adds a New Mania+ difficulty mode, as well as better training system to get new brawlers up and running. New original music is composed and arranged by Tee Lopes, who previously worked on a remixed version of the soundtrack for the physical edition of Streets of Rage 4.

Mr. X Nightmare will launch later this year. Streets of Rage 4 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It’s rated T for Teen.
