Electronic Arts and Hazelight Studios have released a new trailer for upcoming co-op adventure It Takes Two. It’s one of the more impressive video game trailers I’ve ever seen, with over two minutes of gameplay and cinematics, anchored by a classic Fleetwood Mac song.
Like Hazelight’s previous games, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and A Way Out, It Takes Two is designed from the ground up as a two player co-op adventure.
A young girl named Rose is upset when her parents start fighting. She makes dolls of her parents and yearns for them to be together again. The parents, Cody and May, are transformed into dolls and forced into an adventure by the book of love, Dr. Hakim, to repair their relationship through a series of trials. Boss battles include an upset vacuum cleaner that Cody never fixed, and levels include their abandoned greenhouse.
It Takes Two supports both couch co-op local play via split-screen, as well as online co-op. It also includes Friend’s Pass (or Remote Play Together for Steam), allowing one owner of the game to invite another play to play with them, even if they don’t own the game. The friend must be using the same platform, though you can switch between last-gen and next-gen (PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, for example).
The only restriction is that the recipient of the Friend’s Pass can’t host or play the game without their Player 1. Should Player 2 purchase the game, their save progression will carry over. Both players will need PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold to play online on those respective platforms.
It Takes Two is coming to PC (Steam, Origin), PlayStation, and Xbox on March 26. It’s rated T for Teen.
