Yesterday Ubisoft revealed the next game in the Assassin’s Creed series via an artist livestream of the official logo. Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla will transport players to the world of medieval vikings this Holiday season for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

The cinematic trailer premiered today, featuring four minutes of viking culture and battle, though no actual gameplay. It takes place in ninth century England, during an era of upheaval (aren’t they all) between the Vikings of Scandinavia and Anglo-Saxons.

Thankfully Ubisoft released a few details about what to expect from the game, including the ability to play the main character, Eivor, as either male or female, a concept that was introduced in 2018’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

Playable as female or male, Eivor leads a clan of Norse people across the icy North Sea to flee Norway’s endless war and dwindling resources. If they hope to survive, they’ll have to build a new home in the hostile lands of England. There, you’ll provide for yourself and your people by constructing, customizing, and upgrading your settlement with new buildings like barracks, blacksmiths, and tattoo parlors, all while recruiting new members to grow your clan.

Valhalla will expand on the heavier RPG aspects introduced in the last two AC games. And yes, you’ll be able to go on raids with longships to plunder enemy territories and assault strongholds.

For a more in-depth analysis of the the world of Valhalla, the Ubisoft development team, including Creative Director Ashraf Ismail, recorded a developer commentary version of the trailer (above).

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla will launch this holiday season. Like its predecessors it will most likely earn an M for Mature rating from the ESRB.
