In preparation for Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster’s release on Switch and Xbox One, Square Enix has released a new trailer. Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster is releasing on Switch and Xbox One on April 16. It will launch in both digital and physical formats.
Final Fantasy X originally launched in 2001 on the PlayStation 2. It was a critical and commercial success, and ushered the Final Fantasy series into the modern age, with then-new photorealistic art style, 3D worlds, and full voice acting. It’s widely considered one of the best Final Fantasy games, and one of the best games of all time. The direct sequel, Final Fantasy X-2, released in 2003.
Final Fantasy X stars blitzball star Tidus joins forces with a young summoner Yuna as they work to stop the apocalyptic destruction wrought by a massive creature called Sin. Final Fantasy X-2 picks up two years later and stars Yuna along with companions Rikku and Paine as they search for Tidus and avoid war in Spira.
Both games were packaged together and given an HD remaster in 2013 on the PlayStation 3. Textures and lighting were improved, along with better 3D models and updating environments to a 16:9 widescreen ratio. The HD remaster was later released on PlayStation 4 in 2015 and PC (Steam) in 2016.
April 16 will mark the first time Final Fantasy X and X-2 will be available on a Microsoft or Nintendo console. Both games are rated T for Teen.
