The brand new, Fortnite-funded Epic Games Store snagged an exclusive deal with Skybound Games. Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season will release its final two episodes on the Epic Games Store – unless you already pre-purchased them elsewhere. Episode 3, “Broken Toys” releases on January 15, 2019.
The first two episodes launched on Steam and Telltale’s digital store. If you already purchased the full season through Steam or Telltale, you’ll receive the latter half of the season through those same stores as normal. The Epic Games Store exclusivity only applies to new purchases going forward.
“The team at Epic owns a major chapter in the history of the game industry. We’re excited to work together on their latest transformative event with the launch of the Epic Games Store. Epic stepped up to the plate immediately to work with us in order to bring the original team back together and ensure fans will receive the completed season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season,” said President of Interactive Dan Murray and Skybound Games CEO Ian Howe in a joint-statement.
The Walking Dead: The Final Season’s fate was left up in the air when Telltale Games laid off the majority of its staff a few months ago, leaving the highly anticipated conclusion unfinished halfway through. Skybound Games, which is owned by The Walking Dead comic creator Robert Kirkman, swooped in to finish the game, using many of the original developers from Telltale. Other Telltale series, like The Wolf Among Us, remain in limbo.
To help assuage any fears regarding the new company and the rest of The Final Season, the voice actress of series star Clementine, Melissa Hutchison, uploaded a video to answer questions (above).
The Walking Dead: The Final Season is rated M for Mature.
