Epic Games’ Fortnite is the latest online game to explore seasonal updates and events. The Halloween seasonal event is affectionately called ‘Fortnitemares,’ and adds spooky new zone Hexsylvania. It’s available now.
The Hexsylvania zone adds about 25 new Story Quests, along with new creatures, and Spooky Llamas, which hold two new weapons and eight new heroes, 1 for each class/gender combination. You’ll need to complete Storm Shield Defense 3 to access Hexsylvania.
Other updates and changes to the PvE mode include improved Daily Rewards, a pair of new traps, and lots of UI improvements.

Battle Royale has finally received proper leaderboards. Leaderboards keep track of your wins as well as the number of times you were among the survivors in Solo, Duo, and Squads. Leaderboards reset every week on Wednesday, and only compare players within their platform.
The PvP mode has also been divided up into seasons, not unlike what Blizzard does with games like Overwatch and Diablo 3. Characters level up and earn rewards and additional customization for their banners and gliders. You can now also use the V-bucks currency to purchase cosmetic heroes, skins, and pickaxes. The first season lets players level up to 100. You can gain levels through regular play as well as new Daily Challenges. You’ll receive a new Daily Challenge each day, and can store up to three at a time.
Other big updates include adding voice chat to consoles, tightening controller input, and adding a new regen potion called ‘Slurp Juice.’
Fortnite is available now in paid Early Access for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The Battle Royale PvP mode is free right now. The full game is set for a free-to-play release in Spring 2018. No date has been given for the end of the Fortnitemares event.
