The Steam Summer Sale is winding down (ends July 5) but yet another PC games-focused sale has started up. Humble is offering hundreds of indie PC games up to 80% off in what they’re calling the DRM-Freedom Sale. The sale ends next Monday, July 10.
DRM-free means that you’re purchasing an actual game executable and not a license to use a game within a digital store, such as Steam. With Humble you actually get two versions with most purchases: a Steam key and a DRM-free version. This essentially gives you a backup if you use Steam, or you could ignore Steam altogether.
Humble is known for their partnership with charities, and the DRM-Freedom sale is no different. Five percent of purchases will go to Save the Children, a charity that helps children in need.
Most of the sale prices are comparable to Steam’s, with some better and some worse. Make sure to read the game’s description to see if you’re getting both the Steam key and DRM-free version, or if you have to choose.
