ReCore is a game that got a lot of people’s attention when it was announced at E3 last year. I was one of them. This year, Microsoft gave us a bigger look into the game with the main character and her robot companions.
Set in the the world of Far Eden, ReCore follows the story of Joule Adams, one of the last surviving humans. The world is mostly populated by robotic creators who have a spherical “core” that gives them power. Throughout the adventure Joule uses three robots to help her navigate the world and eliminate foes. Each robot has its own unique abilities. Mack resembles a dog and is great for keeping up with Joule as she explores the world. Seth looks a bit like a spider and can be used to latch onto platforms to help with world traversal. Finally, Duncan is just a powerful robot who packs a mean punch.
ReCore is being co-developed by Comcept and Armature Studio. Comcept is the studio of Keiji Inafune, the creator of Mega Man. Armature Studio, which was founded by developers who had worked on the Metroid Prime series. It’s easy to see these past influences in ReCore’s gameplay, but ReCore goes above and beyond those games to create something new.
ReCore will be released for Xbox One and Windows 10 on September 13. The game is part of the Xbox Play Anywhere program, which means you can purchase the game once and play it across both platforms.
