Paradox Interactive and Tantalus Media announced Cities: Skylines — Expanded Edition is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 28 ($49.99).

Players who already own Cities: Skylines on the original Switch platform can receive a 70% discount on the Expanded Edition.

Built and optimized for Switch 2, the Expanded Edition includes a literally expanded map, from the original 9-tile limit up to 25 buildable tiles. Players can choose between two visual options; Performance offers 60 fps with upscaling, while Quality uses 30 fps with a focus on visuals.

Interface and controls have been improved, including precision placement, distance indicators, and snapping options, and a Quick Select Tool.

The Expanded Edition also includes a fully map editor, and environmental control panel, adjusting coloring, time of day, and weather in real time.

Plus, the Switch 2 edition includes 10 DLC expansions and content packs, representing years worth of additional content and updates. This is a Paradox game after all! Big expansions include After Dark, Snowfall, Green Cities, and Sunset Harbor.

Cities: Skylines originally released in 2015, quickly becoming the de facto city simulation game after the void left by SimCity. As mayor, players are in full control of their city: zoning infrastructure, developing utilities, managing water and energy, ensuring safety and education, keeping traffic flowing — you know, all the fun escapism video game stuff!

The long-awaited sequel, Cities: Skylines 2, released in 2023, but was plagued with performance issues and bugs. The sequel has slowly improved over the years. But in 2025, Paradox parted ways with original developer Colossal Order, and new developer Iceflake Studios took over the franchise.

Cities: Skylines — Expanded Edition will release on Switch 2 on October 28. Existing Switch owners will have until April 28, 2027 to take advantage of the discounted upgrade.
