Arc Games and developer Thekla, Inc have released a new trailer for Order of the Sinking Star, an upcoming puzzle game by award-winning designer, Jonathan Blow (The Witness, Braid). The Order of the Sinking Star will release on October 8 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Switch 2.
Orders of the Sinking Star is set in a magical world called the Overworld. Presented in a Zelda-like, isometric view, the Overworld gives players the freedom to explore and tackle different puzzles in different directions.
The game includes over 1000 different puzzles, and professional voice acting (yet to be announced).
At the very beginning of the game, players can branch out into the four main cardinal directions, each offering different paths of characters, puzzles, and secrets.
The Hearty Heroes of Hauling in the north follows a party of D&D-like fantasy adventurers. Players have to utilize each characters’ unique skills and synergies to clear puzzles.
The Mirror Isles lie to the East, which includes lots of islands, and lots of mirrors. Expect a lot of copying, cloning and reflection puzzles.
If spelunking is your thing, the Western path features The Promise. In The Promise, a solo Explorer delves into a network of caverns. The caverns are full of colorful gems that channel light, which unlock important puzzle-solving abilities.
Finally there’s the Skipping Stones to Lonely Homes, located in the South. A marooned sailor needs help crossing water, which requires route-planning, stone-skipping, and other directional puzzles.
Thankfully, the puzzle paths aren’t exclusive. If you get stuck, simply backtrack and explore a different path.
Later, players will unlock special Gold Rooms. Completing these challenges will bridge two of the realms together, including their characters, and unlock new hybrid zones that combine both paths’ puzzles and features.
Game director Jonathan Blow is best known for exploding onto the indie gaming scene way back in 2008 with puzzle-platformer, Braid. His long-awaited follow-up came in 2016 with The Witness, which was inspired by Myst.
Order of the Sinking Star will release on October 8 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Switch 2.
