Disney Dreamlight Valley’s seasonal event this Halloween, Season of Scares, will add a new villainous character — but players have a limited window to unlock them.
Oogie Boogie, the big burlap sack ghost from Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, will arrive in Dreamlight Valley with the Season of Scares update on September 23. Or at least, his quest does. Players will need to complete a series of weekly quests and event challenges to invite Oogie into their Valley. Plus, Zero the ghost-dog as a Companion!

- September 23: Week 1 — A Halloween Invasion
- September 30: Week 2 — The Oogie Boogie Contract
- October 7: Week 3 — The Ghost in the Portrait
- October 14: Week 4 — Rescue Mission
- October 21: Week 5 — Let the Games Begin
- October 28: Week 6 — Oogie Boogie’s Big Game
However, Oogie won’t be available forever. Since his quest his tied to the Season of Scares, once the event ends on November 4, you’ll no longer be able to unlock Oogie. Until next year’s Season of Scares.
Thankfully, according to the announcement, you only have to have started the first Oogie quest before November 4. Players will still have time to complete the quest and unlock Oogie (and Zero) afterward, if needed.
Once unlocked, Oogie will remain as a permanent resident in the Valley, with his own home and Friendship Quests.
To begin Oogie’s quest, you’ll need to have unlocked Scrooge’s Store, Chezy Remy, and the Peaceful Meadow biome, which is all very early game stuff.
The Haunted Floating Festival will return this October. The limited-time event island is available October 7 – 31. Players can complete new and returning puzzles to unlock more seasonal decorations. The Trick or Treat event also returns from Oct 14 – Oct 31, where players can find and earn candy — including going door to door to Valley residents.
Season of Scares also adds a new permanent event board, where players can access the seasonal events, as well as a new permanent event that’s free for all players. Completing the permanent event rewards special astronomer rewards inspired by Merlin from The Sword and the Stone.
Disney Dreamlight Valley is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation, Switch, Switch 2, and Xbox, and rated E for Everyone. The Season of Scares begins September 23.
