The annual Wholesome Direct showcase just keeps getting better and better, highlighting dozens of cute and cozy indie games, hosted by the designers, influencers, and content creators who love and play them.

As part of Summer Game Fest 2026, Wholesome Direct 2026 gave us new trailers, updates, announcements, and demo reveals.

The Direct showcased tons of great-looking games in a variety of genres and playstyles, from life sims to cozy exploration to a multiplayer photo-capturing adventure.

Wholesame Direct even snagged a few high-profile upcoming games, including Paralives, and Planet Zoo 2!

While you’re filling up your wishlist, here are the wholesome games you should play right now with fresh demos on Steam:

The sequel to 2021’s charming exploration adventure adds ghostly yet friendly spirit bears on a new mysterious (but not dangerous!) island. Collect, craft, fish, decorate, and check in each day to customize your own island adventure.

Deer & Boy

A young boy runs away to the woods, where he befriends a fawn in this dialogue-less narrative adventure that looks like an animated feature. Early on the boy must protect his young companion, but as you play, the fawn grows into a deer, and the two use their skills together to overcome challenges. And probably loneliness!

Dragon Shelter

Dragon Shelter is a fantasy farm and life sim — with dragons! Dragons aren’t just lovable companions, but also critical members of your staff, helping build, cook, farm, and more. The demo offers the first several hours of gameplay, including farming and cooking, and introduces your first dragon, the Water Dragon.

Froggy Brews

My oldest is absolutely obsessed with cute frogs, which means she was squealing over games such as Croakwood, and Froggy Brews. Froggy Brews stars Froggy, the cutest of frogs who wants to start a tea business in his hometown. And perhaps, help his fellow residents along the way.

Lou’s Lagoon

Lou’s Lagoon (which annoyingly sounds like Lose Lagoon, which may be intentional as we’re searching for Lou!), is a crafting adventure set around a chain of tropical islands, which are easily explored thanks to our trusty seaplane.  The recently updated demo adds two new islands to explore.

Release: August 27

Milki Delivery

From the designers of Minami Lane, Milki Delivery is a short but sweet 2D delivery adventure. Deliver fresh milk to friendly locals, take care of your cow, and upgrade your bike to get further afield.

Moonlight Peaks

Moonlight Peaks is Stardew Valley — with vampires! The town is home to vampires, werewolves, mermaids, and more supernatural-but-friendly folks. Cast spells, brew potions, shift forms and built up your gothic farm and live your best undead life. The demo includes character creation, townsfolk interactions, and several minigames, alongside crafting and decorating.

Patience is a Virtue

Newly announced at Wholesome Direct, Patience is a Virtue is an adventure puzzle game with a striking art style. The story is written for a mature audience, with some pretty heavy themes as players work to uncover a conspiracy in their small town.
