Nonprofit gaming organization Games for Change announced a partnership with Tencent Games to launch Raising Good Gamers. Raising Good Gamers is a new program “designed to help families engage more confidently with the role video games play in young people’s lives.”
Raising Good Gamers will provide helpful tools, workshops, guides and other resources for schools, youth organizations, and parents. These tools help parents and others engage with video gaming with young people, and support positive and healthy gaming.
Hey, sounds like our creed here at Pixelkin!
“For many parents, video games are a meaningful part of their children’s lives, but one they don’t always feel equipped to navigate,” said Susanna Pollack, President, Games for Change. “As gaming continues to evolve, families are increasingly looking for balanced, practical support. Through this partnership and accompanying research, we’re bringing together data, behavioral science and the voices of families themselves to help address the questions parents have and give them the tools to engage with gaming in a more informed, confident and constructive way.”
The first result of Raising Good Gamers is a research paper: Raising Good Gamers: What Families Need to Know About Video Games and Well-Being, written by award-winning author Dr. Rachel Kowert, who is also the Research Director at Games for Change. The paper draws from global research, and gathers previous studies and interviews with parents and developers to foster conversations about gaming for families, educators, and politicians.
Workshop materials are developed by Arana Shapiro, Chief Program Officer at Games for Change.
After a pilot workshop in March, Raising Good Gamers will officially roll out in the US and UK in September, with more international territories coming next year.
