Cubios Inc, along with Spin Master, have revealed their new handheld smart device and gaming platform, Rubik’s WOWCube, is out of beta and launching later this year.
Rubik’s WOWCube takes one of the most recognizable toys in history, and turns it into a smart device. Diabolical. (And no, it doesn’t have anything to do with World of Warcraft).
Inspired by the classic color-puzzle rotating cube toy of the 1980s, Rubik’s WOWCube features a set of rotating cubes. But instead of color stickers, each side features four screens.
The screens can be used to display apps and games.
This isn’t just a gimmick digital toy, but an entire digital platform, where developers can create and upload apps and games specifically for the three dimensional device. Currently, users can download over 60 apps and games.
I love the look of the free 3D Aquarium that stretches across every screen!
The Rubik’s WOWCube has also been endorsed by STEM.org as an educational product that supports hands-on learning. Users can connect their smartphone to access updates and games, and design their own custom content with the WOWCube Devkit.
“We’re incredibly excited to bring the Rubik’s WOWCube to a wider audience,” said Max Filin, Co-Founder and CEO of Cubios Inc. “The original WOWCube taught us a lot about designing a new way to experience gaming and designing a new platform for developers to build upon. In the two years since we launched the original, we listened to the feedback we received and used it to improve not just the product, but also our approach to how we designed it. This iteration not only implements all our learnings but is also now officially part of the iconic Rubik’s family.”
Pre-orders are not yet available, but interested buyers can sign up for the waitlist on the official website.
