Blazblue Entropy Effect is launching globally on iOS and Android mobile devices on July 22 as free to play.

The roguelike action game is a spinoff of the anime action series Blazblue. It released last year on PC (Steam) as a premium title, with several additional characters as DLC.

The mobile version (which is currently available in Chinese) will launch as a free-to-play title, and include three of the original characters: Es, Mai, and Hibiki. Players will be able to choose one of those characters to start. Additional characters can be unlocked with in-app purchases.

No gacha game mechanics, just purchase the character you want.

As a roguelike, you can play through the entire game with a single character, gaining permanent upgrades and buffs after each run. Though Entropy Effect uses a system of combing previously played character abilities for extra synergies, making it incredibly useful to add another character or two.

Entropy Effect is based on the Blazblue series of anime fighting games, and features fluid 2D action and a variety of characters with their own animations, weapons, and playstyles.

After unlocking a certain number of characters, mobile players can receive the crossover character ICEY for free. The Steam version recently welcomed its third DLC character, Bullet, who enjoys grabbing and throwing enemies like a pro wrestler.

Blazblue Entropy Effect is available on Steam, and will release on mobile on July 22. It’s rated E10+.
