Following the sixth annual Green Game Jam, Playgama is launching the Green Web Game Jam 2025, the first game jam aimed specifically at web game developers. The Green Web Game Jam will run from July 4-15.

Playgama is joining with Playing for the Planet Alliance, hosts of the Green Game Jam, and GameDistribution by Azerion to provide the judging panel.

The goal is for web developers to create short but meaningful games that explore ecological threats and environmental issues, such as pollution and the climate crisis. Games should feature actual game mechanics that explore these themes, not just in the story.

Web developers must use HMTL5/WEB format, and must not exceed 100 MB. Games must also be family-friendly. Use of AI is permitted, but the hosts “discourage the use of AI to generate core game elements, as it can create an uneven playing field among participants.” See the game jam itch.io page for details.

Games will be judged on four primary categories: Gameplay, Theme, Polish, and Visuals & Audio. The winners will be showcased on September 1.

The three winning games will be awarded with a monetized publishing deal on GameDistribution and Playgama. For the rest of 2025, the platform hosts will direct their part of the profits to On the Edge, the conservation program chosen as this year’s charity for Green Game Jam.

“The number of people playing HTML5 games is growing rapidly — already exceeding 500M users globally,” said Dmitry Kachmar, founder, Playgama. “With no need for downloads, web games are accessible instantly on all kinds of devices, reaching massive audiences around the globe. Browser games consume minimal energy and extend device lifespans, making them one of the most sustainable ways to play. We are very proud to lead this initiative alongside partners to raise attention to the way we live on our planet and make significant contributions to the environment.”
