The Playing for the Planet Alliance have revealed a record-breaking 57 studios joining the sixth annual Green Game Jam. The Green Game Jam will launch on June 5, on World Environment Day.
Studios such as Ubisoft, Gameloft, Rovio, TiMi, and other studios from around the world have been participating in workshops in anticipation of the game jam.
The Green Game Jam is a challenge that tasks studios with creating environmentally-themed content into their ongoing live service games. These special events, rewards, and campaigns raise environmental awareness and help fund raise for environmental groups.
Confirmed games include Just Dance 2025, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Honor of Kings, Monument Valley 3, Subway Surfers, Angry Birds Friends, and Crossy Road.
Since 2019, the Jam has raised over $1.5 million, and reaches 100 million daily active users.
This year’s theme is nature. A new campaign will encourage players to share their messages about nature, and then share those messages with policy makers.
“The awe of nature often sits quietly in the backdrop of many great games. This year, we want to change that and bring to the front of the stage and provide players with an opportunity to act,” said Sam Barratt, Chief of Youth, Education, and Advocacy at United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). “We are delighted to see so many returning titles and new ones joining too. We need nature, and nature needs us to protect and restore all that we can.”
