Nintendo and Monolith Soft have released Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition on the Nintendo Switch ($59.99).

In addition to improved HD graphics, the XCX remaster continues the story with a new area, and adds another two companion characters to the large roster.

Although the second game in the Xenoblade series, XCX is a spinoff with a more sci-fi setting. The story features a customizable protagonist as part of a giant colony ship from Earth as they set up on the alien planet, Mira.

Mira is teeming with life, including gigantic monsters, and it’s the player’s job to survey, explore, and protect humanity. The story generally plays a backseat to the massive open world exploration, and the fun, MMO-like combat.

In addition to forming a party of allies, players eventually get their own transforming mech suit, called a Skell. Skells can be used in combat, adding new abilities, as well as to traverse over land, and eventually, in the air, to reach new regions.

Xenoblade Chronicles X (2015) is widely considered one of the best games from the underrated Wii U library, and certainly one of my favorite all-time RPGs.

With the XCS remaster, all four main Xenoblade games have now been released on Nintendo Switch! Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and XC3 were natively designed for the Switch, while the first Xenoblade game, and now X, received worthy remasters.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is rated T for Teen.
