Disney Lorcana’s seventh set, Archazia’s Island, is set to introduce a highly rumored new mechanic to the CCG: dual-ink cards. The set is also themed around pets and animals, introducing characters from Disney’s Bolt, Lady and the Tramp, and The Aristocats.

Archazia’s Island will drop first at local game stores and Disney theme parks on March 7.

Here’s the official story blurb for the new set:

After the Illumineers and glimmers took to the seas questing for knowledge of how to fix the Great Illuminary, they landed on a mysterious island. The Illumineers are welcomed by the enigmatic Illumineer, Archazia, who has protected her island fortress since ancient times. Now it is a place where Illumineers can learn the ways of dual inkcasting and test their skills on the island’s many obstacles and training courses.

Dual-ink cards are a first for the CCG. These are cards that feature two different ink colors, such as Ruby and Sapphire. Unlike Magic: The Gathering, Lorcana’s cards do not have color requirements in their cost.

lorcana dual inkInstead, dual-ink cards are restricted to decks that feature those two colors. This makes many dual-ink cards mutually exclusive with each other, since each Lorcana deck can only have up to two color inks.

On the flip side, dual-ink cards can have much more powerful combinations and synergies.

Examples of Super Rare dual-ink cards include Belle – Mechanic Extraordinaire (Ruby/Sapphire), Jafar – Newly Crowned (Amethyst/Steel), and Elsa – Ice Maker (Amethyst/Sapphire).

The new Aristocat cards don’t have much synergy with each other, though Marie looks like a nice early game play (and her card art is amazingly sassy).

Lady – Elegant Spaniel and Tramp – Enterprising Dog are both Emerald, and synergize nicely with each other.

Archazia’s Island will include two single player decks. An Amethyst/Steel deck featuring Jafar and Iago, and a Ruby/Sapphire deck featuring Belle and The Beast. Players can also grab booster packs and the larger Illumineer’s Trove. A special Lilo Gift Box includes alternate artwork of Lilo – Escape Artist as a promo foil card, as well as five booster packs from previous sets.

Archazia’s Island will release to mass market and online retailers on March 21.
