Thanks to some major releases, February 2025 is looking like one of the best months of the year for gaming.

We’ve barely recovered from the busy holidays, and already some of the biggest games of the year are releasing just around the corner, from the seventh game in a long-standing strategy series, to an exciting new RPG from a cherished developer.

We’ve got fantastical worlds, historical empires, giant monsters, and Valentine’s Day ninjas. All aboard the February hype train!

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

If you want your medieval RPGs with a lot less magic and a little more historical immersion, then get excited for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. The first game is a sweeping single player, narrative-driven RPG that features all the grittiness of early Game of Thrones. There are castles, horses, battlefields, tavern brawls, and a classic revenge tale as you forge a path in the dark days of the Holy Roman Empire of Central Europe.

Sid Meier’s Civilization 7

Can you believe it’s been almost 10 years since the release of Civilization 6? We’ve been in the longest drought for a new entry in the Civ series since Sid Meier first created his masterpiece back in 1991 (years of DLC for Civ 6 notwithstanding). The historical turn-based strategy series has long since perfected its genre, yet with each new entry comes bold new design changes. Reflecting history’s evolution of empires and cultures, Civ 7 players will choose different leaders and bonuses for each new Age as they customize their civilization to expand, explore, and exterminate.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows

What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than with a historical adventure set in medieval Japan? Assassin’s Creed Shadows returns the historical action series to a dual protagonist tale starring a powerful samurai and a stealthy shinobi assassin during a period of constant civil war. Shadows also introduces a detailed base-building hideout where players can craft gear and train their crew. The real shadows are the friends we make along the way!

Avowed

Avowed has the honor of being the only original game on this list. From Obsidian Entertainment (The Outer Worlds) comes a Skyrim-like first-person RPG set in the fantasy world of Pillars of Eternity. Players can wield magic and weapons alike, and even firearms as they explore large zones, complete quests, and befriend companion NPCs. Avowed teases a more story-driven world that blends Skyrim’s world with the best BioWare RPG companions and stories.

Monster Hunter Wilds

Capcom has been on a roll ever since 2018’s Monster Hunter World catapulted the niche series into the mainstream. While we enjoyed Monster Hunter Rise on the Switch, Monster Hunter Wilds is the first true follow-up to World, with large, detailed biomes and equally detailed monsters. Monster Hunter is a series beloved for its status quo of hunting bigger and badder monsters to craft better and more advanced gear.
