After an impressive closed beta, Netease Games and Marvel have announced the release date for Marvel Rivals. And it’s this year!

Marvel Rivals will release on December 6 on PC (Steam, Epic), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

And the good news doesn’t stop there. As announced alongside the release date, all heroes will be unlocked and free to play!

This is huge news, as there was much speculation for how Netease would monetize the game. Recent free-to-play games such as MultiVersus and Star Wars: Hunters lock most of their rosters behind paywall and lengthy progression.

As part of the announcement, Netease also revealed the next two heroes coming to the roster: Captain America, and Winter Soldier. We also get the first glimpses of the new map, the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda.

Captain America is a Vanguard class (duh!) who uses his signature shield to charge enemies and deflect blasts — including some Ultimates! Winter Soldier is a damage-dealing Duelist who uses his techno-arm for quick-kills.

Marvel Rivals is a team-based superhero shooter that pits teams of six in objective-based matches. With Cap and Bucky, that brings the total number of heroes (so far) to 25.

“We are ecstatic to be part of this year’s Gamescom and the opportunity to connect with players from all across Europe,” stated Ethan Wang, Senior Vice President, NetEase, Inc. “We are now entering the final stages of development as we march towards our December 6th release.”

Marvel Rivals will release December 6. It’s rated T for Teen.
