Dragon Quest Treasures is a new spin-off Dragon Quest RPG launching for Nintendo Switch on December 9.

Dragon Quest Treasures is a prequel to Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age. The story stars siblings Erik and Mia, exploring their adventurous childhood in the land of Draconia — which involves making friends with monsters.

Our young heroes will need the help of classic Dragon Quest monsters in order to reach hidden treasures. Monsters can glide over cliffs, scale walls, and sprint across fields to collect treasures. They can also battle other monsters and rival treasure hunters.

Collected treasure can be spent to expand the player’s home base, which in turn expands their roster of friendly heroes, unlocking more, and more powerful, monster allies.

The Dragon Quest series is no stranger to monster collect-athon spin-offs. Though earlier games in the series (Dragon Warrior Monsters and Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker) were more literal Pokémon clones.

Dragon Quest Treasures has not yet been rated by the ESRB. The main RPG series ranges from E10+ to T for Teen. It’s arriving on Switch on December 9.
