Activision and Infinity Ward have officially announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, along with a worldwide release date: October 28. Watch the lengthy new gameplay trailer above.

The sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare (which was itself a reboot of the long-running series) revisits the iconic soldiers of Task Force 141 in a single player campaign. The globe-trotting story will take players through stealth missions, underwater infiltrations, and mile-high action setpieces.

After completing the campaign, players can join up in the two-player mode Special Ops. And of course, the main course: the multiplayer. After launch, players will get soon get their hands on Warzone 2.0, a separate Battle Royale-mode which features its own player progression and inventory.

Modern Warfare 2 will feature all kinds of sexy tech specks that I only pretend to understand, including photogrammertry, PBR decal rendering, world volumetric lighting, and 4K HDR.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will launch on PC (Battle.net, Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, on October 28. Pre-order customers will be able to jump into multiplayer early via the open beta. A special Vault Edition includes the Cross-Gen bundle, the Red Team 141 operations pack, FJX Cinder weapon vault, Ghost Legacy Pack, and the season one battle pass for Warzone.
