A new trailer dropped for DotEmu’s delightfully retro beat ’em up, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. The trailer wasted no time revealing the sixth playable character: Master Splinter!

Finally the old robed rat who taught them to be ninja teens gets a chance to show off his moves. Splinter wields his mighty cane in combat, and is described as a mid-range fighter.

Splinter is the second surprise character announcement, after the publisher revealed April O’Neil, newscaster and frequent turtle-ally,  as the fifth playable fighter last year. April wields her trusty camera and microphone into battle against the Foot Clan.

Shredder’s Revenge is a classic side-scrolling beat ’em up, and a modern successor to some of the best arcade and console beat ’em ups of the 80s and 90s, such as Turtles in Time. It will feature up to four player co-op and a new story mode. It’s being developed by Tribute Games and published by DotEmu, who also published the excellent retro beat ’em up sequel, Streets of Rage 4.

We still don’t have a specific release date, but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is launching later this year, on PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
