To celebrate the third anniversary of free-to-play multiplayer shooter Apex Legends, players can unlock rewards just by logging into the game — including new characters.
The event is called Defiance, and begins February 8. Each week you can unlock a free legend plus Thematic Packs for that character.
- Week 1 (Feb 8 – 15): Unlock Octane and three Thematic Packs.
- Week 2 (Feb 15- 22): Unlock Wattson and three Thematic Packs.
- Week 3 (Feb 22 – March 1): Unlock Valkyrie, three Thematic Packs, and one Legendary Pack.
If you already own any of these legends, you’ll still get the packs as rewards. Legends normally cost 12,000 Legend Tokens to unlock in-game (or 750 Apex Coins, or about $10). This is a great chance to jump back in and unlock some new-ish legends.
Defiance will add a new legend in Mad Maggie, bringing the roster up to 20. The new Limited Time Mode is Control, a classic control point deathmatch between two teams of nine legends each, and infinite respawns. Defiance will also feature a new ranked season as well as a new battle pass.
Apex Legends is free to play on PC (Steam, Origin), PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox. It’s rated T for Teen.
