In a reveal that is either very surprising or not surprising at all, Smash Bros. series director Masahiro Sakurai revealed the 12th and final DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Sora, the keyblade wielder from the Kingdom Hearts series, will enter the ring as part of Challenger Pack 11 DLC ($5.99) and Fighters Pass Vol. 2 ($29.99).

Sora wields the keyblade that unlocks and seals realms, as well as beats up the Heartless, across Disney and Pixar worlds. In Smash Bros., Sora excels at fighting in the air, with high jumps and light movement. He can easily execute multiple combo attacks using a few button presses. He’s also capable of wielding Final Fantasy magic such as Firaga, just like in the action-RPG series.

However, due to licensing restrictions, he won’t be bringing any of his Disney allies with him. Nor do they appear anywhere in the new stage, Hollow Bastion. The original characters from Kingdom Hearts, including Kiku, Kairi, and Roxas will appear as stickers in the Spirit Board.

“Having a fan-favorite character like Sora join the ranks of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the perfect way to close out the Fighters Pass expansions,” said Nick Chavez, Nintendo VP of Marketing. “With a dozen fighters added since the game launched, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate now boasts 86 total fighters spanning the entire history of video games, giving players an unprecedented amount of gameplay choices and options.”

In related news, all the previously released Kingdom Hearts compilations are coming to Switch as streaming games, as well as a new all-in-on pack called Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece. A release date was not announced, but Square Enix is planning on celebrating the 20th anniversary in 2022.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available on Switch, and rated E10+.
