In a social media tease, BioWare announced they’ll be revealing an “early look” at the next Dragon Age game during The Game Awards. The Game Awards is scheduled for Thursday, December 10.

The new Dragon Age game is the fourth in the fantasy RPG series, though has yet to have an official title. The last game in the series was Dragon Age: Inquisition, which released in 2014 to critical acclaim and commercial success.

The Dragon Age games take place in the same D&D-like fantasy world, but each is a separate story with its own cast of characters. Like the original Mass Effect trilogy (BioWare’s other once-popular action-RPG series), the series is beloved for its cast of fully voiced characters and party members.

The last several years since Inquisition’s release have a tumultuous time for BioWare, however. Mass Effect: Andromeda (2017) and Anthem (2019) were major disappointments, plagued with bugs and troubled development. The latter has followed Dragon Age 4, with recent announcements that Casey Hudson and Mark Darrah, executive producers for Mass Effect and Dragon Age, announced their departure from the studio.

The Game Awards is an annual award show just for the gaming industry. Due to the global pandemic, this year’s The Game Awards is all-digital. The stream starts at 4 pm Pacific/7 pm Eastern.
