Game director Masahiro Sakurai announced the newest DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Minecraft Steve! Steve will also include costume swaps of other Minecraft characters and foes, including Alex, Enderman, and a zombie.

Steve will have lots of Minecraft abilities at his disposal, including building blocks, explosives, mine carts, and flying wings.

“When thinking about new fighters for this game, we don’t just pick my favorites or draw from a hat,” says Sakurai in the video. “These discussions start with Nintendo approaching me with an idea. […] Don’t they know what kind of game Minecraft is? The wizardry required to make it work in this game… It’s impossible! I said, ‘yes we can do it.'”

The Minecraft characters don’t require any voice acting. Stages, however, had to be reworked to support Minecraft blocks. Like previous DLC fighters, the Minecraft DLC should also include a new stage and music tracks.

With Minecraft Steve offering a much different kind of character, Smash Bros. Ultimate will feature a more in-depth video called, Mr. Sakurai Presents “Steve & Alex.” It will broadcast this Saturday, Oct. 3 at 7:30 AM Pacific/10:30 AM Eastern, which is directly before the Minecraft Live event.

Minecraft Steve is the second announced fighter for Fighters Pass Vol. 2 ($29.99) and the eighth DLC fighter overall. Fighters Pass Vol. 2 will include a total of six DLC fighters. The first is Min Min from ARMS. The previous Fighters Pass ($24.99) added five new fighters: Joker, Dragon Quest hero, Banjo & Kazooie, Terry, and Byleth.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available on Nintendo Switch.
