Sony’s third State of Play aired this week. The 20-minute video presentation focused on several upcoming indie games, as well as the big reveal of The Last of Us Part 2’s release date: Feb. 21, 2020. Watch the entire presentation, including a new trailer for The Last of Us Part 2, above.

“We began working on this game over five years ago,” writes Neil Druckmann, lead director, Naughty Dog. “It’s hard to describe the immense pressure of following up the first game. We know how much you love this world and its characters — especially Ellie and Joel. Believe me, we’re fans as well. We love them. Which is why we spent years crafting a game that we feel will do them justice, telling a nuanced story that deals with the core question: how far would you go to exact justice against the people that hurt the ones you love? It’s a highly emotional story with complex themes that befit the world of The Last of Us.”

A release date reveal also means pre-orders are available. Fans will find a lot of goodies to salivate over, as The Last of Us Part 2 will be released in Standard, Special, Digital Deluxe, Collector’s, and Ellie Editions.

The Special Edition ($79.99) includes a steel book case, 48-page mini art book, and some digital goodies like an ammo capacity upgrade. If you prefer buying digital games, you can get a digital art book and soundtrack from the Digital Deluxe Edition for $69.99.

The Collector’s Edition ($169.99) includes everything in the Special and Digital Deluxe Editions, plus a 12″ Ellie statue, six enamel pins, an art print, and a set of stickers.

Finally there’s the Ellie Edition ($229.99), which includes everything in the Collector’s Edition, plus a full-sized, fully functional backpack modeled after Ellie’s in-game backpack, and a physical 7″ vinyl record featuring the original soundtrack.

The Last of Us released in 2013 on PlayStation 3, becoming a best-selling hit and critical darling, winning multiple awards, and entering the frequent conversation for one of the greatest games ever made thanks to its harrowing post-apocalyptic drama and relationship between Joel and Ellie.

As announced during the State of Play, The Last of Us Remastered will be available for free as part of October’s monthly free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

The Last of Us Part 2 will release exclusively on PlayStation 4 on Feb. 21, 2020. It has not yet been rated by the ESRB. The first game was rated M for Mature.
